Heavy Equipment Boss

Chloeta is recruiting to fill one (1) NWCG-qualified Heavy Equipment Boss (HEQB) for fire fuels reduction at multiple locations near Colorado Springs, CO.  Chloeta exhibits Native American preference in hiring and is a drug free workplace.   
Duty Station: Colorado Springs, CO
Minimum Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • NWCG Qualification as Heavy Equipment Boss, Single Resource (HEQB)
  • Background check and drug test required
  • Five (5) years or more related employment experience
Target Requirements:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Represents Chloeta professionally at times
  • Supervises approximately 12-person fuels crew
  • Identifies capabilities and limitations of equipment and operators prior to use
  • Ensures equipment and transports are inspected prior to being used and released
  • Minimizes damage to improvements or sensitive areas
  • Ensure fueling and equipment safety precautions are followed
  • Ensures readiness for assignment
  • Ensures availability, qualifications, and capabilities of resources to complete assignment
  • Gathers, updates, and applies situational information relevant to the assignment
  • Established effective relationships with relevant personnel
  • Establishes organization structure, reporting procedures, and chain of command of assigned resources
  • Understands and complies with ICS concepts and principles
  • Leads assigned personnel by modeling leadership values and principles
  • Ensures the safety, welfare, and accountability of assigned personnel
  • Establishes work assignments and performance expectations, monitors performance, and provides feedback
  • Emphasizes teamwork
  • Coordinates interdependent activities
  • Ensures relevant information is exchanged during briefings and debriefings
  • Ensures documentation is complete and disposition is appropriate
  • Gathers, produces, and distributes information as required by established guidelines and ensures understanding by recipients
  • Communicates and ensures understanding of work expectations within the chain of command and across functional areas.
  • Develops and implements plans and gains concurrence of affected agencies and/or the public
  • Gathers, analyzes, and validates information pertinent to the incident or event and makes recommendations for setting priorities
  • Takes appropriate action based on assessed risks
  • Modifies approach based on evaluation of incident situation
  • Anticipates, recognizes, and mitigates unsafe situations
  • Follows established procedures and/or safety procedures relevant to given assignment
  • Provides logistical support as necessary
  • Effectively advises and assists in resolving human resource issues
  • Plans for demobilization and ensures demobilization procedures are followed
Compensation and Work Schedule
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience, education and capability
  • The subject project is anticipated to last approximately (9) months. Potential employment beyond this period is possible.
Security Clearance
  • Public Trust, a background investigation is required
Travel Required
  • Work will take place at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station and the United States Air Force Academy. Travel beyond these locations is not anticipated.
